Hotel description
The historic apartment hotel Palazzo Margherita Positano on the Amalfi Coast is the ideal starting point for excursions in Campania: relax or enjoy water sports at the beach, hike in the mountains and dine at fabulous restaurants.
Apartment hotel Palazzo Margherita is located in Positano’s old town and is the oldest inn in the area. The pretty fishing village is well known by gourmands and wine lovers, but is also a quiet beach destination surrounded by beautiful nature and with numerous historical attractions. The 7 spacious and comfortable apartments - furnished with antiques and with high vaulted ceilings - are ideal for couples and families who want to enjoy a relaxing beach holiday, love to go hiking and enjoy a spot of culture.
Historic Hotel: 18th century Palazzo steeped in history
The Amalfi Coast, with its warm Mediterranean climate, has been a popular tourist destination for over 100 years. Built in the late 18th century, the Palazzo Margherita opened on 4 May 1885 as the first hostel in the small fishing village of Positano. Over the years, the majestic building has hosted prominent artists, politicians and nobles from every corner of the world. It was renovated twice, in 2000 and 2013, but has lost none of its traditional charm.
Apartment Hotel: Comfortable apartments with four-poster beds and antique furniture
The Palazzo Margherita Positano consists of 7 apartments, all featuring a terrace with views to the port, garden or sea. Despite modern conveniences - such as air conditioning, satellite TV, a fully equipped kitchen and free Wi-Fi - guests will feel as though they have been transported back in time. The atmosphere is inspired by antiques including four-poster beds, restored pieces from the 9th and 10th centuries, high vaulted ceilings and the majolica tiles that are so typical of the region. All the apartments feature bold colours and oriental patterns, making them light and friendly. The 78 square-metre Sponda apartment exudes a special charm - offering not only a romantic canopy bed and antique furniture, but also a luxury bathroom with separate shower and whirlpool. All the apartments are named after local attractions.
Beach Hotel: Enchanting local beaches
The hotel is conveniently located just 200m from the Mediterranean Sea and Positano’s pebble beach. The town’s public beach has loungers, parasols, toilets, changing rooms and showers, and is supervised by a lifeguard. There is also a beach bar and restaurant. Along the coast there are plenty more pretty, secluded beaches - some sandy - that are only accessible from the water by boat.
Eating & Drinking: Wide choice of gourmet restaurants
Gourmands are in heaven in Campania - an area well known for its culinary excellence. Many tourists come here especially for food and wine tours. In total, there are 21 Michelin-starred restaurants in the Campania region, 5 of which are to be found on the Amalfi Coast. Authentic Italian cuisine is offered by many restaurants in Positano. Among those especially recommended are Savino, for typical Amalfi cuisine with seafood; the legendary Buca di Baco taverna, which opened in 1950; and the Mediterranean restaurant Il Ritrovo. Alternatively, guests can cook delicious food for themselves in the fully equipped kitchen in each apartment. There are supermarkets nearby, while Palazzo Margherita Positano can organise cooking classes on request.
Sport & Leisure: Centrally located for destinations in Campania
The Amalfi Coast is packed full of beautiful destinations for excursions. The Palazzo Margherita reception will gladly help organise activities and excursions. Numerous water sports are available at local beaches, including deep sea fishing, scuba diving, snorkelling and canoeing. Boat trips to beaches only accessible by sea, nearby islands such as Capri or the Li Galli islands, or to the Punta Campanella marine park, are also very popular. The fishing village of Positano itself has plenty to offer, including a beautiful old town, historic buildings, restaurants, small shops and boutiques, and charming cobbled alleys. It is ideal as a starting point for hikes into the mountains - with ancient paths leading to quaint mountain villages such as Montepertuso or Nocelle. The Emerald Grotto in Conca dei Marini and the ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum, are also not far. The cities of Amalfi - with its old cathedral - and Ravello - with its famous music festivals - are nearby.
Location: Between the mountains and the Mediterranean
The Palazzo Margherita Positano is located on the Amalfi Coast in the southern Italian region of Campania. The apartments feature beautiful views over the historic city centre, the sea with the islands of Li Galli opposite and the Monti Lattari mountains. Naples Airport is 65km away; the hotel offers an airport shuttle service for a fee.
