Hotel description
With 22 stylish rooms and suites, the Palazzina Grassi offers guests plenty of privacy and luxurious comfort. The hotel’s attentive service, which responds to individual requests, has already been singled out for praise by Condé Nast Traveller. Dining options at the Palazzina Grassi include PG’s Restaurant, which serves regional cuisine, and the exclusive Krug Lounge.
City Hotel: Located in the heart of the lagoon city
The Palazzina Grassi is located in 16th a century Venetian mansion directly on the famous Grand Canal. From the hotel’s windows and roof terrace, guests can enjoy magnificent views of the canal and Venice’s narrow streets and alleys. The Campo Santo Stefano and St. Mark’s Square are both within easy walking distance. Directly adjacent to the hotel is the magnificent Palazzo Grassi, which houses a contemporary art gallery, and for which the hotel is named.
Luxury Hotel: 5-star rooms with round-the-clock service
The Palazzina Grassi welcomes all its guests with a drink, while also offering individual bus or limousine transfers, as well as luggage and night porter services. The luxury hotel has been named as one of the 50 best hotels in the world by Condé Nast Traveller for its perfect service and high levels of comfort. Included among the 22 5-star rooms at Palazzina Grassi are 6 individually designed suites. Guests can choose from rooms between 22 and 130 sq m in size, all equipped with comfortable beds, fine linen and modern technology, including free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TV and radio with iPod dock. A safe, minibar and air conditioning are also provided in every room. The Executive Plus Suite enjoys plenty of natural light thanks to a private terrace, and is equipped with a work space. The spacious travertine bathroom is equipped with a shower, bath, luxury towels and quality toiletries. With sloping ceilings and panoramic views across the Grand Canal, the Attic Suite has a special atmosphere. At 48 sq m, it includes space for a separate living area, complete with a sofa and tea table. The bedroom is equipped with a king-sized bed. The 130 sq m JD suite includes 2 bedrooms and 2 living rooms. It was named for Johnny Depp, who spent three months at the hotel.
Design Hotel: Contemporary design meets traditional comfort
With uncompromising modernity, the French designer Philippe Starck has created a look that successfully contrasts contemporary design with the traditional 16th century Venetian architecture that characterises the building. Typical regional materials such as travertine are combined with a clear design concept. The elegant and cosy interior includes traditional Venetian patterns, which are broken by unique furnishings, such as stools made of buffalo leather, mirrors and chrome features.
Food & Drink: Breakfast on the roof terrace and regional cuisine
The Palazzina Grassi’s à la carte breakfast can be ordered at any time, as there are no set breakfast times. It can be served either in the restaurant, in guests’ rooms or on the rooftop terrace, depending on preference. PG’s Restaurant combines traditional Venetian cuisine with Asian influences. During show-cooking displays, guests can watch as head chef Paolo Businaro conjures culinary delights from fresh ingredients. He devotes great attention to the quality of products and selects them in person, whenever possible, from regional markets. As such, only the freshest fish, meat and cheese from local farms and seasonal vegetables, such as white asparagus from Bassano or artichokes from St Erasmus, appear on the menu. All pasta and pastry making is overseen by Businaro himself. PG’s Restaurant is open daily from 19.00 to midnight. The exclusive Krug Lounge also offers an open air restaurant, though the stylish club-like atmosphere means that it is also a great place to enjoy a glass of Grand Cuvée. The Krug’s terrace is open to non-guests, and with its beautiful views over the rooftops of Venice, is an exclusive city hot spot.
Sport & Leisure: Boat tours, parties and Venetian culture
The Palazzina Grassi offers a variety of activities, parties and personalised experiences - such as cooking courses and boats tours with champagne and appetisers - through its concierge service. Private club nights and parties take place twice a month at the 5-star hotel, during which the elite of the lagoon city meet and mingle. However, there are plenty of bars and nightlife in the vicinity. Most of Venice’s key sights, museums, galleries, opera houses and theatres can be reached easily on foot, while boat rides along the Grand Canal can be organised right outside the hotel’s front door. There are numerous other activities within walking distance, including a bowling lane, fitness centre, volleyball courts and a casino.
Location: Central position on Grand Canal
The hotel’s location on the bend of the Grand Canal offers guests not only beautiful views, but also a convenient connection to the lagoon city’s main traffic artery. Venezia Santa Lucia railway station is located about 2km upstream and is reached by water taxi or public ferry in about 10 minutes. There is a regular ferry service between Venice Tessera Airport, located about 12km away on the mainland, and Venice island, which takes approximately 1 hour. Alternatively, you can drive along Via Liberta in around 15-minutes.
