Right on the Grand Canal - all you have to do is cross the Rialto Bridge - is Venice's San Polo district, which exudes classic Venetian charm. On the Canal you can watch the hard-working gondoliers, via narrow alleys with hotels behind stone walls you reach stores with typical Venetian masks. At the Mercato de Rialto, fish is offered in abundance. The medieval San Giacomo di Rialto is also located in San Polo, as the oldest church in all of Venice.
