This small hotel in northeast Asturia transforms the Relais & Châteaux perfectly: a beautiful medieval manor with a sweeping view of the bordering valley forms the heart of the estate. All around this heritage-protected building stand more recent constructions beautifully fitting the main house’s architectural style. The whole grounds are picturesquely embedded in the verdant green forest and meadow landscape typical of northern Spain. In addition to a total of 45 rooms and suites spaciously spread among the buildings, there is an unusual variety of seating and retreat options both inside and out, including several comfortable living rooms, an inner courtyard terrace and a panorama terrace. A heated swimming pool with a sauna area is also available for guests. The highlight of the hotel’s amenities is its gourmet restaurant run by Ignacio García Canellada, former student of multiple award-winning chef Fernando Martín.
Historic Hotel: Medieval architecture expanded harmoniously
The Palacio de Luces, around which the current luxury hotel is built, comes from the 16th century. So does the chapel, which looks out on the surrounding area from the highest point on the grounds. Both have been masterfully, lovingly restored to their original condition. All the other buildings match perfectly, with pale stone walls and red tile roofs, as well as large windows flooding interior spaces with light and offering beautiful views of the garden or surrounding landscape.
Nature Hotel: Between the mountains and the coast
Both the immediate neighborhood and the excursion destinations in the area are particularly interesting for nature lovers and hikers. Anyone who likes to be surrounded by green will love Asturia and the Palacio de Luces. Green meadows and forested hills sprinkled with small villages spread out all around the hotel. Picos de Europa wildlife preserve and its foothills are very near. Hikers, climbers and mountaineers will find enchanting hiking paths and nature experiences. In the other direction, the sea is only a few minutes away.
