The Ionas Boutique Hotel, a historic hotel in the oldest part of the Venetian port town of Chania on Crete, is situated very close to several sights and museums, but also lots of markets, cafes and restaurants - a setting which means you can really live like the locals. In the “Plathia Rouga” residential area in the historic quarter Splantzia, as well as the Crete Ionas Boutique Hotel you’ll also find the historic church Agia Irini and the Santa Maria della Misericordia monastery to complete the historic flair. Just a stone’s throw away you’ll also find the lively town center of Chania.
A hotel with history
The masonry Venetian elements of the facade of the historic Ionas Boutique Hotel as well as the archway above the entrance have been lovingly restored. In some parts, the main building still has its original walls that date back to 1538. The wooden elements of the Ottoman-style facade at this Chania Hotel were recreated with the help of the clues that could be seen in the walls. Only recently the building, which has been family-owned since the 1920s, was restored and converted into an historic hotel. In order to maintain as much originality as possible, traditional building techniques were used, without losing sight of modern comfort, which is where the historic hotel excels. Loving details like the artfully designed wood and iron banister or the equally artfully arranged windows lend the Ionas Boutique Hotel its unique charm.
The rooms
Also in the rooms of the city Hotel Ionas the combination of historical and modern elements is reflected. The wooden floors create a pleasant atmosphere, and in the walls some of the original stones can still be seen. The modern, well-equipped bathrooms all offer a massage shower. The wooden doors to each room have been individually designed and have a decorative element to them. Satellite TV and amini bar make for a comfortable stay, be it a honeymoon or a family holiday to Crete.
Eating and relaxing
Breakfast is served in the basement breakfast room of the Chania Hotel, which also serves as a cafe and is connected to the reception by an original stone arch. For all other mealtimes you’ll find an excellent restaurant just a few doors down and there are plenty more in Chania. The highlight (in the truest sense of the word) is the pretty roof terrace at the Chania city hotel, where you can breathe in the early morning air or relax by candlelight sat in a cane chair during the evening.
Discover the beautiful surroundings even easier by bike? At the hotel "Ionas Boutique Hotel" this is no problem, guests can rent bicycles at the hotel for a fee.
