In wide loops, the Moselle runs through steep vineyards and small woods. The river separates the Eifel from the Hunsrück and flows past imposing castles, palaces and picturesque wine villages like Cochem or Bernkastel-Kues. Small villages with romantic half-timbered houses and historic old towns such as Trier are home to hotels on the Moselle. From its source in Lorraine to its mouth at the Deutsches Eck in Koblenz, hiking and biking trails often follow the course of the river close to its banks.
