The Villa Soro, a charming hotel housed in a renovated 19th century villa, is located just a few hundred metres from the city centre of San Sebastián. The 25-bedroom villa (listed as a Historical Heritage Building) is run privately, offering guests personalised and friendly service in a traditional setting. Lush green lawns stretch around the building, punctuated with trees and flowerbeds and interrupted only by a cobblestone terrace, protected under the shade of a canvas umbrella. Equally lovely however is the all-glass veranda, from which guests can enjoy a stunning view of the gardens.

The Villa Soro is not the only impressive mansion in the neighbourhood. Stately homes of different styles and sizes add character to the district, which is just 10-15 minutes away from the city centre by foot. It is also possible to catch the bus into town every 5 minutes, from directly outside the Villa’s front doors. Other services on offer at the Villa include a protected parking area, competent concierge service, WLAN and DSL connections in the guestrooms, as well as room service and taxis available to book on request, for travel to and from the airport.
Historical Hotel: 19th century villa in typical Indiano style
The Villa Soro in San Sebastián is much more than just a beautiful building. Built in the typical ‘Indiano’ architectural style of the area, it harks back to the time of the Siglo de Oro, or Spanish Golden Age, during which ‘Indiano’ was the term for Spaniards who had sought their fortune in America. These migrants then returned to their homeland, displaying the international influences they had experienced in the architecture of their huge, newly built villas. The Villa Soro continues to be a shining gem among these impressive houses, with its special mix of traditional structure and colonial style, its lovely gardens and modern furnishings.

This villa is the perfect destination for travellers who appreciate first class service and unique interior design. While the owners strive to keep the house’s historical character intact, this has not held them back from installing first-rate facilities to guarantee a more modern style of living for guests. For instance, the original rooms inhabited by the previous family owners have simply been renovated into comfortable Deluxe Rooms, complete with king-size beds, complimentary alcoholic beverages and en suites. Each of the Villa’s 25 rooms is uniquely decorated, some with pieces from local artists such as Jorge Oteiza, and the comfort of the generously sized guestrooms is complimented by impeccable service, with staff on hand to answer any questions and help with any requests.
Food & Drink: traditional Bed & Breakfast
The Villa Soro offers a traditional bed & breakfast service. Guests are served a generous breakfast buffet every morning, with the option to eat on the outdoor terrace or in the hotel conservatory in less appropriate weather. Small dishes and snacks traditional to the Basque region are available to order as part of the hotel room service; however, to truly experience the outstanding local cuisine, it is necessary to venture into the surrounding city restaurants. Here is where gourmets will find a delicious array of dishes, especially in the Old Town and the gourmet restaurant Arzak, famed for its reinvention of traditional Basque cuisine. The hotel staff are happy to offer recommendations and make reservations for guests.
Sport & Leisure: Fitness room & Bicycles for rent
Guests with an interest in sport are welcome to use the hotel’s small fitness room. The local beach is also well worth a visit, and the hotel offers guests towels to take with them free of charge. Guests are also invited to rent bicycles directly from the hotel for free, to better explore the surrounding area.
