Hotel description
Located close to Andorra in the romantic old town of La Seu d’Urgell, the Parador offers 77 elegantly furnished rooms and suites in a converted monastery. The peaceful surroundings are ideal for a recuperative break or excursions exploring the mountains of the Pyrenees. The hotel has its own restaurant, a modern gym with sauna and solarium, and a large, naturally-lit indoor pool. The Parador de Seu d’Urgell was awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence in 2014.
Paradores: Magic of the Middle Ages combined with modern design
The remains of the 14th century Dominican monastery were cleverly renovated to create the hotel, preserving the historic cloister. Paradores (hostels, in English) are architecturally interesting castles, towers and churches that have been converted into modern hotels under the care of the Spanish government. They are all located in stunning rural areas or historical town centres. The rooms are usually furnished with antiques or, if possible, retained in their original condition. The paradores concept also encompasses the history of the building, typical regional food and drink, and excursions exploring the natural beauty and attractions of the local area.
Design Hotel: Modern minimalism combined with Gothic elements
Contemporary design is skilfully combined with the sober character of the former monastery - with glossy surfaces and clean lines artfully highlighted by indirect lighting. The surviving monastic cloister has been integrated into the elegant and modern interior of the rest of the building. Guests can lounge on comfortable seating in the glass-roofed, green courtyard and look out onto the different floors of the hotel, illuminated in various colours. All the rooms are very spacious, comfortable and furnished to a high standard. They include stylish bathrooms and free Wi-Fi. Rooms are bookable in the categories standard double room, with living room, with double bed, or double room superior.
Romantic Hotel: Renaissance building and idyllic nature
The Parador De La Seu d’Urgell is located right in the heart of the old town of the same name. The Romanesque Cathedral of Santa Maria, with its beautiful granite cloister, and the Renaissance town hall in the Casa de la Ciudad are both located next to the hotel. The streets of the old town are dotted with arcades and medieval facades. The imposing Torre Solsona, the castle above the town, greets arriving visitors from a distance. It is also not far from the parador to the Serra del Cadi Nature Park, with its snowy peaks, rich diversity of flowers and wild animals.
Eating & Drinking: Breakfast buffet and Catalan culinary creations
In the morning, guests are greeted by a varied breakfast buffet served in the in-house restaurant. Breakfast can also be served in the room on request. For dinner, the menu includes traditional tapas, as well as elegant 3-course meals. The head chef delights guests with typical regional dishes such as ’escudella barrejada’ - a traditional stew –, stuffed wild boar or unusual creations such as ’mousse de miel y mató’ - a mousse made from honey and fresh goat’s cheese. Just like the restaurant, the hotel’s lounge bar is decorated in a minimalist design with glimmering lighting – the perfect place to relax in the evening with a fine drink.
Sport & Leisure: Gym, sauna and sights
The hotel’s sauna and gym with modern fitness equipment are free of charge. For golf lovers, the Aravell Golf Andorra club is just 10 minutes’ drive outside the town. In summer, avid canoeists can watch the Parc Olimpic del Segre competitions or take to the water themselves; La Seu hosted Olympic canoe races during the 1992 summer Olympic Games. Above all though, the magnificent mountain scenery of the Cadi-Moixeró is ideal for hiking, cycling and skiing.
Location: At the foot of the Pyrenees
La Seu d’Urgell is located in the province of Lerida in Catalonia, in northern Spain. The tiny country of Andorra, with its excellent ski areas, is just 10km from the town. The city of Lerida (Lleida) is about 130 km from the parador and is accessible via the N-260 highway.
What else?: Tasteful rooms for special events
The Parador de Seu d’Urgell features 3 modern and tastefully furnished rooms, with between 140 and 330 square metres of floor space, for private parties or conferences. The hotel also includes a business centre and all the necessary technical equipment for meetings.
