Hotel description
The comfortable and spacious suites of Cocoa Island as well as the villas at this luxury resort are inspired by the traditional wooden Dhoni boats. Large windows and private terraces with direct access to the lagoon enchant guests along with the panoramic views of the Indian Ocean. Ayurvedic massage and a wellness retreat including hydrotherapy pool and infinity pool ensure total relaxation. The in-house restaurant serves a balanced diet of South Indian cuisine.
Beach Hotel: Secluded dream beach with lagoon and private reefs
On this remote island in the South Malé Atoll the fine, white sands of the Cocoa Island beach are reserved exclusively for guests at the Cocoa Island resort. The suites are inspired by the construction of local Dhoni boats and made of natural wood with Kajan roofs. Built on stilts over the ocean they can be reached via wooden footbridges; guests can enjoy views of the beach from the water side. With its powdered sugar-white sands and the turquoise lagoon between sea grape trees, colourful hibiscus bushes and palm trees, it is a paradise for bathing. Last but not least, the staff in each room provide a free beach bag with flip flops. Cocoa Island is a hotspot for diving and features one of the best sites in the world for divers with 2 vibrant reefs on both sides of the island.
5 Star Hotel: Spacious suites with private terrace and panoramic views
Guests at the Cocoa Island resort can choose between 8 Dhoni Suites, 8 Dhoni Loft Suites, 10 Loft Villas, 4 one bedroom villas and 2 COMO villas. The simple suites spread across 75m² are divided over two floors; on the upper floor is a bedroom with a double or king-size bed and Italian linens, downstairs the living room is equipped with air conditioning and ceiling fans in a colonial style and opens onto a private sundeck with lounge furniture. Free mineral water and fresh fruit are provided daily in the rooms, espresso machines and a fine selection of teas are also on offer in each suite. The bathroom is comfortably equipped with a bath and separate shower and provided with hair dryer and exclusive COMO Shambhala bathroom amenities. The facilities of the suites also include 42" flat screens with satellite TV and DVD player, free WiFi, one iPod docking station and a safe. Across 110m², the Dhoni Loft Suites offer room for a spacious living area, with panoramic views of the sea on 3 sides with floor to ceiling windows. The sleeping area with king size bed is accessible via an external staircase. The bathroom is located on the lower level, an additional toilet is connected to the sleeping area. The Loft Villas offer a 123m² living room with window front facing the Indian Ocean. In addition, they have an outdoor shower on the terrace.
Wellness Hotel: Ayurvedic treatments, yoga classes, and infinity edge pool
Across a total of 506m², the "COMO Shambhala Retreat" wellness area includes a hydrotherapy pool and 4 treatment rooms, where guests can enjoy massages and nourishing facial treatments. According to the Asian healing tradition of Ayurveda natural ingredients from the sea and the earth are used to treat the body, mind and soul. The offer is rounded off with yoga classes, as well as meditation retreats which are offered regularly, led by world-renowned specialists. The large 25m² infinity-edge pool invites you to take a dip.
Food & Drink: Imaginative creations with European and Indian influences
The Cocoa Island offers full board breakfast, lunch and dinner served à la carte in the "Ufaa" restaurant. There is a rich selection of fresh fruit and Sri Lankan breakfast specialities served every morning. In addition to string hoppers, nests of noodles, and Wattalappam—a coconut milk flan with Palm syrup—Western breakfast classics are served. Flexible meal times allow the guests to take their lunch and dinner when they wish. The menu combines the best of European and Indian Sri Lankan cuisine. Fresh fish and local seafood feature heavily across the selection. On the COMO Shambhala menu guests will find raw food and mainly vegetarian dishes with fresh organic vegetables, which can be ordered also from 7 to 10 via the room service. Next to the pool awaits the ’Faru’ beach bar with refreshing cocktails.
Sport & Leisure: Total relaxation, snorkeling trips, deep sea fishing, sailing
Dedicated to holistic relaxation the in-house spa offers Ayurveda massages and facials. An infinity pool, hydrotherapy pool, and a gym are also available. With their colourful underwater world, the 2 nearby reefs invite you to take a dive, and the centre organises snorkeling trips in the Fushifathi Finolhu Reef. There are also catamaran and kayaking trips, island-hopping trips, deep sea fishing and luxury sailing on offer. Sunset cruises, where dolphins often join along for the ride, or a private picnic on a neighbouring island can also be arranged. Pick up some fishing equipment from the hotel staff and they will happily serve up your catch for dinner. Windsurfing fans can find all the necessary equipment at the front desk. For those who like peace and quiet there are free yoga classes 6 times weekly, or participate in the pranayama meditation, which takes place once a week and is free to guests. The leisure programme is rounded off by the hotel’s well-stocked library.
