The island of Dhigufinolhu, in South Malé Atoll just 35 minutes from Malé, offers pure relaxation combined with sweeping views of the deep blue Indian Ocean. Anantara Dhigu Resort is located in a shallow turquoise lagoon and offers comfortable beach bungalows, luxury villas and over-water suites. An intimate atmosphere and top-class service allow for total relaxation. As well as a large spa area, there is an infinity pool, gym, children’s club and water sports centre, with a dive centre and surf school.
5 Star Hotel: Luxury comfort and intimate atmosphere
The villas lie surrounded by tropical gardens, directly on the white sandy beach or over the crystal clear waters of the turquoise lagoon. Depending on location, the villas are ideally situated either for sunrise or sunset. The 110 square-metre beach bungalows feature high quality and tasteful decor in azure and turquoise tones and with fine white fabrics. High wooden ceilings, large windows and a tropical thatched roof complement the design. Each beach villa opens onto a terrace with a small exotic garden. Comfortable sun loungers and a spacious dining area provide for an intimate atmosphere. All 110 villas come equipped with a terrazzo bathtub, rain shower, king size beds, separate dressing room, flat-screen satellite TV, CD / DVD player, iPod docking station, Wifi connection, safe, minibar and kitchenette with microwave, kettle and coffee maker. There are also Sunset Pool Villas with private pool and floor space from 162 square metres. The six 180 square-metre Anantara Pool Villas have their own private beach. The 132 square-metre Sunrise and Sunset Over-water Villas feature fantastic sun decks. The 180 square-metre Anantara Over-water Suites also include a private pool, separate dining area and bath. You can take a dip in the warm waters of the lagoon directly from the Over-water Suites. For families, the 165 square-metre Sunset Family Villa is recommended.
Wellness Hotel: Spa, pool and yoga on the beach
The Anantara Spa – covering a total of 2,157 square metres – offers the finest in holistic treatments and total relaxation, with panoramic views and treatment rooms over the waters of the lagoon. The offering ranges from Asian and detox massages, to facial, body, Thai and Ayurvedic treatments, all accompanied by the scent of fragrant petals and warm coconut oil. A relaxation terrace overlooking the lagoon provides peace and quiet with ocean views. Aerobics, cardio and yoga classes are offered at the beachside gym. The hotel’s large infinity pool is perfect for cooling off after exercising.
Honeymoon Hotel: Romance under palm trees
Couples getting married or on honeymoon enjoy special offers and packages. Anantara Dighu Resort specialises in romantic honeymoons, with services such as breakfast in bed, private chef and butler, and champagne and chocolates on arrival. The intimate atmosphere of the Beach and Over-water Villas - luxuriously furnished and overlooking the Indian Ocean - make for an especially unforgettable experience for couples. The hotel also organises romantic weddings and parties on the beach, in a traditional dhoni or on a yacht. Couples can choose to tie the knot over the shimmering lagoon or in the glow of the setting sun. The hotel will happily plan the ceremony and celebration to the very last detail.
Eating & Drinking: Breakfast and dinner buffet, à la carte restaurants
Guests at the Anantara Dighu Resort are spoiled every morning and evening by a rich buffet. Half- or full-board can be booked à la carte or buffet-style as desired. Previous guests recommend the dine-around option, where a visit to each restaurant in the resort is included in the room rate. In addition to the Fushi Café breakfast restaurant, a buffet breakfast and dinner are served in 73 Degrees, a typical Maldivian thatched-roof pavilion. The three other main restaurants include: the Fuddan Fusions Grill, with delicious fish and seafood dishes; Baan Huura, which serves Thai specialities on the small neighbouring island of Veli; and Terrazo, an Italian restaurant. The Aqua bar, right by the sea, offers delicious cocktails and snacks. The resort can also arrange a banquet on the beach or at a location of your choice on the island for a special occasion.
Sport & Leisure: Swimming, snorkelling, diving and water skiing
Children can safely wade out into the lagoon on Dighufinolhu, as the water is very shallow and warm. Experienced swimmers can not only practice their strokes in the hotel’s infinity pool, but also swim out to the lagoon’s house reef. Snorkelling and diving are possible all around the island. Rays, baby sharks and parrot fish are among the marine life to be spotted. Guests can enjoy dolphin watching tours, and the hotel’s water sports centre offers kayaking, surfing, sailing and water skiing. Bicycles are available, and a tennis court and beach volleyball offer exercise.
