Hotel description

Each of the 19 rooms features a winning combination of historic elements, such as stone walls and wooden beams, and modern conveniences. The homely atmosphere and personalised service create an environment in which guests quickly feel at home.
Historic Hotel: Restored 17th century castle
The Iriarte Jauregia Hotel is located in a historic 17th century castle. The castle was restored from the ground up in 2009, during which the original stone walls were incorporated into the modern design. Today, the hotel can justly class itself as a 4-star first class establishment. The windows, floors and beams were retained and date from the time of the building’s construction.
Rural Hotel: Untouched nature in the Basque Country
The Iriarte Jauregia Hotel is situated in quiet surroundings in the middle of a valley. The property is surrounded by forests and mountains, the like of which are found only in the heart of the Basque Country. The views of the mountains, the flowering valley and unspoilt nature are especially impressive from the large terrace. The hotel’s terrace and garden are equipped with sun loungers, from which guests can admire the landscape in comfort. Great emphasis was placed on sustainability during the hotel’s restoration. Resources are used sparingly, and the hotel generates its electricity on-site.
Design Hotel: Old stone walls combined with modern style
Despite the 17th century masonry, great emphasis was placed on design during the hotel’s construction. The decor is modern and stylish, which together with the original building’s rustic natural materials, combine to create a cosy and charming atmosphere. Each of the hotel’s 19 rooms is decorated in warm colours, which contrast characterfully with the exposed stone walls and dark wood ceiling beams. The atmosphere is enhanced by fantastic views of the surrounding Basque countryside.
Eating & Drinking: Outdoor breakfast and international cuisine with Basque influences
The on-site Bailara restaurant provides a buffet breakfast. This can be eaten in the restaurant itself, as well as on the terrace or in the room. Head chef Enrique Fleischmann serves international four-star cuisine with Basque influences in the restaurant. Special attention is given to vegetarian and gluten-free dishes. Outside of the restaurant’s opening hours, guests can order snacks and cool drinks from the hotel bar, which also serves a light lunch from Thursday to Sunday.
Sport & Leisure: Rest, relaxation and private massages
Guests can participate in cooking classes in the on-site Bailara restaurant for a charge of €30 and learn about the secrets of Basque cuisine. Relaxation and enjoyment are at the forefront at the Iriarte Jauregia Hotel. Surrounded by the unspoilt nature of the Basque Country, guests can relax on the sun terrace or in the shade of an old tree in the garden, which is surrounded by an ancient stone wall. In the privacy of their own room, guests can relax with a massage by experienced practitioners. The selection ranges from classic back, neck or whole-body to detox and aroma massages. The gently hilly surroundings of the Basque Country are perfect for hiking, with plenty of routes for both novice and seasoned hikers. Mountain bike rental is also available for those looking for action. There are several bike trails through the Basque mountains in the immediate vicinity of the hotel.
Location: Between the mountains and the Bay of Biscay
The nearest major city San Sebastian also has an airport. The city, located on the Bay of Biscay, is about 35km from the hotel and the journey from the airport takes approximately 45 minutes by car. A highlight of the local area, Mount Ernio, is about 5km from the hotel. The mountain, which is just over 1,000m high, can be climbed on foot in about 2-3 hours. It is also possible to cycle to the summit. There are several restaurants at the foot of Ernio, as well as along the mountain road, where you can fortify yourself for the ascent.
