Dark wood and ceramic tiles characterise the comfortably furnished rooms of the Las Calas, along with the typical Canarian white walls. A communal living area with fireplace can be used for relaxation and reading. For relaxation, there is an outdoor swimming pool, an idyllic sun terrace and a solarium available. Guests can enjoy homemade Mediterranean cuisine in the hotel’s own restaurant, and they also have the possibility to cook for themselves in a small communal kitchen.
Country hotel: Quiet location in a nature reserve in the mountains of Gran Canaria
Las Calas is situated in a quiet, secluded setting in a nature reserve in the mountains of Gran Canaria. Just five minutes’ drive from Vega de San Mateo, it offers colourful tropical gardens and an outdoor swimming pool. The area is rural, and fields and farms can be seen in the surrounding region. Numerous biking and hiking trails are available around the property to explore the idyllic nature. All nine rooms of Las Calas, including six double rooms, two junior suites and one suite, offer scenic views of the mountains or the hotel’s spacious garden. All guests may use the small kitchen with stove, microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker, and a cosy living room with fireplace to create a welcoming atmosphere.
Historic hotel: Restored manor from the 17th century, ancient country house style décor
Renovated in 1999, this hotel was built in the 17th century as a manor house and skillfully combines Mediterranean home decor with Arabic elements. Many details of the original architecture have been integrated in the restoration by the present operator, Magüi Carratalá. This hotel seamlessly blends into the traditional architecture of the Canary Islands. Antique country furniture, including characteristic Bauer cabinets, simple, elegant beds, playful side tables and colored rugs, characterises the interior of the individually designed rooms. Lovingly selected paintings, Arab and Spanish art, and decorations from the private holdings of the host family Carratalá give the hotel a charming, personal flair.

The silence of the environment creates an ideal place to relax and feel good. From the rooms guests can enjoy breathtaking views over the mountainous of Gran Canaria or the hotel’s spacious garden. A roomy suite with dark parquet flooring, separate bedrooms, recessed ceiling beams and bright walls creates a refined and harmonious atmosphere in their simplicity. On request, fresh cut flowers, champagne, wine, chocolate, candles, and other romantic arrangements can be provided in the rooms. The 2,500 m² garden area offers many cosy spots to relax with its fragrant fruit trees and colorful roses.

The breakfast, which is included in the accommodation price in Las Calas, is available as a classic buffet on the terrace or in the dining room. On request it can also be taken in the room. Products from the surrounding farms are used for preparing the Mediterranean delicacies of the hotel’s own restaurant, and the fresh fruit and herbs come from our own garden. Lunch and dinner can be ordered à la carte in the cosy restaurant, which has a rustic style with its recessed ceiling beams and wood furniture. Self-catering is also available in a small guest kitchen with stove, oven, toaster, coffee machine and microwave.
Sports & Recreation: Outdoor swimming pool and solarium, hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking
For those who yearn for peace and relaxation, the sun terrace and the swimming pool in the tropical garden are perfect places for relaxation. Active guests will enjoy the well-developed road network, where you can explore the rural Gran Canaria on foot, as well as by bicycle. In the hotel bicycles can be rented for a fee. Highlights include the mountain canyons which are filled with laurel forests in „La Mina, “ with its raging river and ancient water mills, as well as Spain’s largest botanical garden, „Viera y Clavijo“, which is home to hundreds of endemic plant species on 27 hectares. The surroundings can also be explored on horseback. The stables at the foot of the Cabreja in Vega de San Mateo (3 km) are the first point of contact. In San Mateo, the ethnographic museum „Cho Limones“ is worth seeing, on Saturdays and Sundays a mixed agricultural market takes place there.
