Hotel description
Perched on the cliffs of Cascais, this former villa of the Count of Cabral offers panoramic views of the picturesque town and deep blue Atlantic Ocean. The Farol Design Hotel harmoniously combines the historic villa with a modern glass building. 2 exclusive restaurants, 2 bars, a large saltwater swimming pool, sun terrace and free use of a fine sandy public beach meet the highest expectations. Stylish rooms are also available for conferences, events and weddings.
5 Star Hotel: Exquisite location and stylish interiors
The Farol Design Hotel enchants guests with its peaceful setting and breath-taking panoramic views. The large sun terrace in front of the hotel, with its 90 square-metre outdoor pool, garden area, sun loungers and parasols, is the perfect place to relax in the healthy sea air. All rooms have air conditioning, heating, TV, telephone, free Wifi, mini bar, bathrobes, slippers, and a hydro-massage bath. There are 3 suites, 10 standard rooms with sea views, 11 standard rooms with garden views and 9 designer rooms to choose from. The penthouse apartment, with 4 bedrooms, panoramic views and a 24-hour butler service is located separately for complete privacy. The hotel also offers a jacuzzi, hammam and massage service.
Design Hotel: Award-winning combination of old and new
The Farol Design Hotel was one of the Red Dot Award winners in 2013, and in 2014 received the ’Vencedor Certificado de Excelencia’. The hotel’s contemporary design, harmoniously combined with the historical villa, won over the jury. The architect Carlos Miguel Dias was responsible for the design of the buildings, while the interior is the work of designer Dr. Mark Leivikov. The 9 designer rooms have been decorated in unique style by some of the most prestigious local and international designers, including Ana Salazar and Arcadius. Radiant whites in contrast with blacks and reds are the dominant theme. All rooms have king-size beds, while some have a balcony with sea views.
Historic Hotel: Princely villa and futuristic new-build
This luxury hotel was initially constructed in 1890 as grand beach villa for the Count of Cabral, who welcomed noble guests from around the world. The atmosphere of the Belle Epoque lives on in the old building, which was combined in a brilliant way with a futuristic new glass construction. The hotel enjoys sweeping views over the nearby marina and former fishing village of Cascais, with its picturesque old mansions and cobblestone streets. Located on the cliffs of Cascais, the hotel sits above the spectacular coast of Estoril, which is renowned for its quiet bays and sandy beaches. The hotel is popular for weddings and celebrations due to its setting and historical ambience.
Sport & Leisure: Massages, sunbathing, water sports and hiking
A wide range of full-body, back, neck, face, foot reflexology, relaxation and herbal massages ensure guests can unwind completely. For more active guests, the hotel is situated right on a cycle path along the cliffs. Walks along the jagged coastline are also possible. Bicycles and cars can be rented for a fee at the hotel. The public Guino beach, with beach bar and lifeguard, is just 20 minutes away on foot. Water sports such as windsurfing, kitesurfing, surfing, water skiing, canoeing and sea fishing are also possible. A golf course is located a few kilometres away. It is possible to visit Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of mainland Europe, both by boat or with a hire car, while the idyllic Évora, in eastern Portugal, is also worth a visit.
Eating & Drinking: Mediterranean fusion cuisine and the finest sushi creations
Breakfast is served buffet-style in The Mix Restaurant, but can also be served in-room on request. A selection of hot and cold dishes - both regional and continental - make for a great start to the day. Special dietary requirements are also catered for on request. The Mix Restaurant offers fresh local Mediterranean fusion cuisine, produced with regional ingredients and natural flavours. Both eyes and palate are spoiled by the fancy sushi and sashimi creations served in Sushi Design. Both restaurants feature impressive decor and a large terrace open to the Atlantic Ocean. Afternoon tea can be enjoyed daily between 16.00 and 18.30 in the Tea Lounge or on the terrace: savoury scones, homemade cookies and finger food are served in the typical British tradition. The Farol Bar offers delicious drinks accompanied by soft lounge music along a lengthy bar overlooking the cliffs, while the poolside Bar on the Rocks - open during the summer months - serves cocktails, drinks and snacks in a relaxed atmosphere.
Location: Spectacular cliff-top location between Lisbon and Sintra
The Farol Design Hotel is located right on the coast, atop the cliffs of Cascais, with spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean. Cascais - with his glamorous marina, shopping and entertainment district - is approximately 1.6km from the hotel. Beautiful beaches such as Praia da Azarujinha can be reached by car in 10-20 minutes. The international airport in Lisbon is situated around 35km away.
What else?: Meeting rooms and wedding catering
The hotel can plan and cater for weddings and provides rooms for events or meetings. The stylish Private Lounge holds up to 30 people, while the Sala Farol with Atlantic Ocean views and access to the terrace, can accommodate up to 80 guests.
