Hotel description
Location: Southern Spanish mountain village & great views
The Bajo el Cejo is situated in a great panoramic-view hillside location at the edge of El Berro in Murcia, around 15km from Alhama de Murcia.
If you’re looking for relaxation in a natural setting, this mountain hotel in the Spanish province of Murcia is ideal. The Hospedaria Bajo el Cejo is situated in a small hamlet called El Berro at the edge of the Sierra Espuna mountains. From the hotel you can follow lots of paths and trails through the glorious countryside of this sparsely populated hilly region. The hotel itself boasts a really charming atmosphere across two buildings: a former coal house and an old water mill. Its owner Andres, who runs the hotel himself has converted these two charming buildings into comfortable guest houses whilst still maintaining the essence of their historic architecture. As well as the 12 tastefully designed guestrooms there are also several communal living rooms (one with a fireplace) and a swimming pool in the outdoor area.
Hillside hotel: Historic flair in a hiker’s dream location
The Sierra Espuna is a mountain chain in the center of the autonomous region of Murcia in the south-east of Spain. Its highest mountain is the 1,583m Morrón de Espuña. The diverse natural landscape with its rich flora and fauna is a paradise for hikers – both if you’re after an active holiday or if you just want to explore and enjoy the countryside at your leisure. Bajo el Cejo is spread over three terrace-like levels on a hillside at the edge of El Berro. From all three levels there are magnificent views over the valley.
Quiet hotel: Villagey feel & pure nature
The Bajo el Cejo is ideal for just switching off. It’s as if time slows right down in this small mountain village, which has just over 100 inhabitants and still cherishes old traditions and handicrafts. The hotel itself has a quiet atmosphere even in the high season thanks to its small number of guestrooms. The most relaxing spot is on the middle level where you’ll find a pool with stunning mountain views.
Food & drink: Beautifully presented breakfast & home-cooked regional cuisine
In the morning guests staying at the Bajo el Cejo are treated to a real picture-postcard breakfast with homemade bread and jams as well as a variety of typical produce from the region like for example freshly squeezed fruit juices and fresh figs. If you let the owners know in advance you can also enjoy an excellent dinner of regional dishes accompanied by some well-selected wines. Or you can dine in the village where there are two small restaurants, also offering excellent regional cuisine. There’s also a self-service bar for drinks whenever you like.
Leisure & sport: Hiking & relaxation by the pool
The hotel has a stunning location for exploring the Sierra Espuna regional park and its protected nature. There are plenty of hiking trails of varying difficulty. From a relaxed stroll to extreme mountaineering at the nearby steep face of Leyva. The surrounding area also has plenty to offer mountain bikers. But if you’re more interested in culture then in the area you’ll come across lots of little mountain villages with historic buildings and lots of rural charm.
