The architecture of this unique old city building was completely untouched as it was transformed from a city house into a hotel: the suites are typically found surrounding a peaceful internal courtyard area. Particularly worth mentioning about the Riad are, however, its trendy interior designs: entire suites have been painted in a crisp white, contrasted with splashes of colour that reflect precious gems or exotic wood. For instance, the Cinnabar suite has deep, rich shades of red; Peridot has vibrant greens in the headboard, a daybed, cushions, roman blind and bed counterpane. The lamps in the large courtyard were custom-made by a local craftsman and give delightful shadow plays at night when illuminated. Additionally, guests will find an elegant hammam spa area in traditional tadelakt style, where they can indulge in a relaxing hammam and massage.
City hotel: Authentic city house and brilliant service
The Riad Sapphire and Spa hotel has been designed with the utmost love and experience by its owners Barbara and Beryl. The hotel is already the third and most beautiful project of the twin-sisters. Alongside the beauty of its architecture and interiors, the hotel will impress guests with its friendly and personal service. If guests aren’t comfortable finding their way around the winding streets of the Medina, they will receive a mobile telephone and if necessary will be guided back to the hotel by it, or they will even be picked up by a co-worker of the hotel if they get lost. Additional extras include complimentary wireless internet access, in-room safe, and a large rooftop terrace, where guests can enjoy a glass of wine in the evening and look out over the roofs of the city, listening to the sounds of the old city.
Riad Hotel: Stunning designs and authentic craftsmanship
Despite its architecture that includes an internal courtyard area, Riad Sapphire feels bright and airy due to much more. The colonial style interior of the 1920s has been combined with traditional Moroccan craftsmanship that gives the hotel an exotic feel as well as an authentic ambience. The plaster carvings have all been made by hand, the lamps are custom-made and the baths are made with Moroccan lime plaster (Tadelakt). In the suites guests will find powerful shots of accent colour, such as bright red or purple cushions and seat-coverings, providing perfect visual contrasts.
Food and Drink: Bed & Breakfast
Riad Sapphire Hotel and Spa takes the form of a traditional bed & breakfast. Breakfast comprises a delicious mix of continental and typically Moroccan specialties. Everything is prepared freshly and beautifully presented. For afternoon and evening meals, guests will find an array of restaurants in the old city. In the hotel itself guests can order dinner, lunch or snacks. Mint tea is offered throughout the day.
Free time and sport: Marrakesh by foot and relaxing in the hammam
This hotel is absolutely ideal for those interested in culture, and wanting to explore the Medina and discover the sites of Marrakesh by foot. The Riad, however, with its two peaceful internal courtyards, the rooftop terrace, its small pool and its fireplace, is a wonderful base to relax and plan outings. After a long day exploring, a visit to the quaint hammam in the hotel is just what you’ll need. Upon reservation, guests can also book expert massages here.
