In the mountains of the Serra de Esperança near the town of Belmonte in the middle of Portugal, you will find the former monastery Nossa Senhora de Esperança, which has been transformed into today’s Pousada de Belmonte. Monastic Peace and Quiet
The serene ambience of the old monastery from the 13th century has been maintained in the Pousada, despite the creative renovations at the romantic hotel in Belmonte. The chapel and vestry were remodeled to serve as the new lounge and bar. Guests can stroll through the old cloisters or relax on the terrace with it’s fabulous view all the way to the Serra de Estrela with plenty of romantic niches to discover all around.
Monk Rooms
In the new expansion of the monastery estate of the Pousada de Belmonte, there are 24 rooms, each named after a monk. They are simple and comfortable with rustic stone flooring, canopy beds and each featuring fabulous wall paintings with beautiful nature motifs. The view out of the window spreads out over the idyllic mountains and woods – the perfect setting for a relaxing vacation!

The living rooms housed in the chapel are furnished with comfortable padded furniture and romantic lighting schemes from the lamps mounted to the rustic stone walls, creating an especially romantic setting for a cozy evening.
