Massive ceiling beams, white-washed walls and stone walls make up the charm of hotel Eremo della Giubiliana as much as its location in the middle of carob and olive trees. Where during the Middle Ages the refectory of the Johanniter Knights was housed, today one can eat Sicilian dishes under ancient vaulted ceilings. The rooms have been designed to offer high luxury and comfort. A wellness area, a park and an outdoor swimming pool complete the picture.
Historical: Restored monastery buildings with their own archaeological site
The present-day luxury hotel was built in around 1500 as an Arabian country estate. Situated high above the sea, it was reliable protection against intruders with its fortified walls. Today, an old tower testifies to the historical past. From the Tower Suite, in good weather you have a view of the sea towards Malta. The hotel has its own archaological site with a small ancient necropolis. The hotel harks back to its time as a monastery. The luxurious hotel rooms were built in the monastic cells, the restaurant is located under ancient the vaulted ceilings of the refectory. Old stone walls, arches and antique furniture underline the medieval character, which has been carefully restored and comfortably complemented throughout the hotel. Many furnishings come from the family of the Naganaboyina family, who belong to the landed gentry of the plateau.
Romantic: Quiet location, historic charm and comfort
The quiet, secluded location surrounded by the fields of southern Sicily promises plenty of rest. Visitors can enjoy a romantic atmosphere in the wellness area of the Hotel Eremo della Giubiliana as well, situated in a large park where guests can relax after their spa treatment in loungers under old olive trees. The view reaches from here out to beyond the plateau, sloping gently to the coast. Antiques, luxurious upholstered furniture and wrought iron beds combine romantic luxury and historic charm in the rooms. Dark antique Sicilian furniture stands out against the light white-washed and bright stone walls.

En-suite bathrooms, fine antiques and Jacuzzis and Persian carpets in some of the rooms make for a luxurious feel. Guests can choose from Classic, Superior, Deluxe and the Suites. A private airfield also belongs to the hotel -- according to the hotel, this is Europe’s southernmost private airfield. Other facilities include a Concierge service, a bus and limousine transportation, as well as a sewing and ironing service.
Food & drink: Sicilian cuisine in the old refectory
The restaurant is located in the hall of the medieval refectory of the Johanniter Knights, under a magnificent vaulted ceiling. Massive wooden tables extend the historical ambience. Further historical decorations include the paintings of the Scuola Siciliana of the 17th century. The view is of olive trees and the sea. On nice evenings, Sicilian meat and fish dishes can be enjoyed in the old Hortus Conclusus garden. A look at the wine list, which has an excellent selection of 200 wines, is recommended. Wine tastings as well as wine tours are available upon request. The cuisine of the hotel offers health foods, regional specialities, vegetarian and vegan dishes, gluten-free dishes as well as whole foods. Breakfast at Hotel Eremo della Giubiliana is characterized by plenty of fruit, homemade rolls, cheese and sausage. Cooking classes are also offered on request in the restaurant. For the dogs, dog menus are offered.
Sport & leisure: Spa and golf
Hotel Eremo della Giubiliana offers medical massage as well as wellness massages in the wellness area, which is located in the Archaeological Park. Wine therapy and facials are also available. Bicycles can be used to most easily explore the immediate surroundings. Bikes can be rented from the hotel. The shuttle takes you to attractions in the region. Tours and excursions can include the castle of Donnafugata, Marina di Ragusa Beach and Museo Archeologico Regionale Ibleo. A golf course is located 15 km away. Necessary reservations can be made at the hotel. The nearest tennis court is located in Ragusa. Here is also the beach of Marina di Ragusa, where boats can be rented and boat trips taken.
