The Kasbah, the quarters in which the Dar Sultan is located, is situated high above the Medina and once was the neighborhood of the Gnawas and the administrative part of the Medina of Tangier. Here, behind the ramparts, the sultan lived with his family. For a long time, the buildings here decayed. But now, where until only five years ago only cheap pensions and hostels awaited travelers, an impressive change takes place: In the Kasbah, bit by bit, every traditional Moroccan residence is turning into a small, elegant boutique hotel.
