Romantic Hotel: Loving decor, honeymoon specials and events
With its 13th century walls and location on the edge of a forest, Villa Borgo Pignano is a romantic retreat for couples. In addition to the 11 rooms and 3 honeymoon suites in the main villa, the hotel offers apartments and studios in restored country houses dotted around the estate. The 2-bedroom house by the lake is particularly appealing for couples or groups of friends. For larger groups, there is a house with space for more than 20 people to sleep. On request, the hotel staff can arrange romantic touches - such as rose petals, candles and champagne in the room - as well as candle-lit dinners and honeymoon specials. It is also possible to book the entire site for weddings and other events. The hotel will gladly assist with planning parties, events and concerts. All rooms are individually decorated with country house furnishings, charming patina and antique pieces. The frescoes that feature in some of the hotel’s rooms are a particular eye-catcher. The spacious bathrooms are artfully designed with marble or local limestone. Wi-Fi is free in all the rooms.

The Borgo Pignano estate stretches over 750 acres of Tuscan countryside. The grounds of the hotel include a farm - complete with horses, pigs and chickens - and a vegetable garden that supplies the kitchen with fresh ingredients. Much of the food used in the kitchen comes from the hotel’s grain fields, orchards and olive plantations. Emphasis is placed on sustainable biological agriculture, with careful use of resources. Guests at the Borgo Pignano enjoy quiet surroundings close to the forest. The hillside location offers panoramic views of the valley and Tuscan countryside; on a clear day you can see right to the Mediterranean and the island of Corsica. The rural tranquillity can be savoured especially well from the terrace or lawn.
Historic Hotel: Carefully restored ruins from the 13th to 18th century
The Borgo Pignano is sited on an ancient Etruscan settlement, with the existing country houses dating from around 1800. The property also includes an 18th century mansion built by an Italian landowner. The foundation walls of the villa in which the 14 rooms and suites are located date from the 13th century. Their elaborate frescoes were carefully restored, contributing to the hotel’s special atmosphere.

The rich breakfast buffet is served on the garden terrace or in the restaurant, and includes fresh seasonal fruit, homemade bread, dairy products, fine jams and honey produced on the estate. Borgo Pignano is located in Tuscany, between the medieval towns of Volterra and San Gimignano. The hotel is about an hour from Siena, Pisa and Florence, and easily reachable by car. The coast is also an hour away. The nearest airport is Florence-Peretola, which is about 70km from the hotel, while Pisa’s Galileo Galilei Airport is 75km away.
