A Historic Hotel in Portugal
The Hotel Pousade de Évora – Lóios is found in the historic center of the town of Évora, an area recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site. The historic hotel itself is a prominent feature of the town center, as the former monastery of the S. João Evangelista and the Order of the Lóios (hence the name) displays its truly impressive architecture. The monastery was built in 1485 on the ruins of the fortress of Évora, whose origin goes back to days of Moorish rule. After an earthquake in 1755 it had to be rebuilt and the Pousada de Évora was given its current form. In 1965, the modern Hotel Pousada de Évora opened in the restored walls of the monetary, creating a truly unique historic and romantic hotel, whose construction resurrects the splendor of past times. Antiques, elegant tapestries, fine upholstery, stone floors, breathtaking stairways and chandeliers set the scene in the Hotel Pousade de Évora – Lóios.
