The ski resort of Wengen is situated at the foot of the Jungfrau, the third highest mountain in the Bernese Alps. For decades now, the Romantik Hotel Schönegg hasn’t just fitted in amongst all the other hotels in the resort center. Rather it enjoys a privileged location facing this 4000m+ high mountain that’s classified as a World Heritage Site. And you can see it from each of the 20 guest rooms. If you’re looking for traditional chalet coziness, you’ll not be disappointed here. The hotel’s suite is uniquely beautiful with its chalet style, whirlpool tub in the open-plan bathroom and views of the summit of the Jungfrau. Despite the recent complete renovation, wood is still the material of choice. The hotel restaurant with fireplace, white tablecloths and rustic wood paneling provides a particularly gorgeous setting.
Mountain hotel: Summit views & car-free village
The resort of Wengen is situated at around 1200m above sea level with direct cable car access to the ski and hiking area of Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen. What’s really nice about this alpine village is that it’s completely car free. You can only reach the resort with the rack railway (Wengernalpbahn) from the neighboring resort of Lauterbrunnen. This gives this alpine village with its typical Swiss chalet architecture a really romantic feel.
