Hotel description
The ruins of an old fortress and lighthouse give testimony to the island’s past and are harmoniously integrated into the resort’s tropical gardens, alongside cascading pools and rippling waterfalls. The resort’s 3 restaurants, where guests dine in historic colonial buildings, and an exotic wellness centre built into a Banyan tree, give the resort its Mauritian flair. The 284 rooms are all filled with natural light and have a balcony or terrace with either a sea view or a view over the hotel’s spacious gardens.
Beach: Peaceful coves, 2 swimming pools and water sports
The guests’ rooms are in very close proximity to 3 different beaches. Additionally, there are two swimming pools that are harmoniously integrated into the resort’s exotic gardens, which stretch to the beach. The peninsula has a number of peaceful coves. In addition to swimming and sun bathing, the resort offers numerous water sports. Guests can also enjoy snorkelling or a trip in a glass-bottom boat.
Romantic: Secluded coves and tropical gardens with a water landscape
From Canonnier Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa, couples can enjoy views over Mauritius’ northern islands. Several secluded coves invite guests to pause, or go on long walks. The hotel contains a large, 7 hectare tropical garden. Cascading pools and waterfalls are integrated into this exotic landscape. A historic lighthouse and the remains of a fortress fit seamlessly into the gardens and provide a distinct charm. Newly-weds can have a romantic and peaceful stay in the open-plan honeymoon suite, with private terrace overlooking the glistening sea and secluded coves.
Family hotel: baby room, Mini Club in a historic lighthouse and children’s area in the main restaurant
Due to its quiet location and accommodation and facilities available to meet the needs of families, the Canonnier Beachcomber Hotel is well-suited for a holiday with children. There are two room categories available: the "family duplex room", with a separate floor for the children; and apartments with 2 bedrooms and bathrooms. The resort also has a baby room, providing everything that a child under 3 would need. Older children could join the Mini Club, which is located within a lighthouse from the colonial era. This club has a colourful programme of arts and crafts, sports and the opportunity to learn Creole. The option of having an all-inclusive holiday package, in which all essential costs and meals are included, allows families to have a carefree holiday. The resort’s main restaurant has a children’s corner with special furniture, specifically designed to meet small guests’ needs.
Food & drink: Live cooking, themed buffets, gourmet cuisine and evening entertainment
Guests can treat themselves to a hearty breakfast buffet in the main restaurant, Le Frangipanier, located next to the biggest swimming pool. There are a variety of international buffets available, depending on the time of day and the theme. These are occasionally accompanied by elaborate ice sculptures or appetising arrangements. Live cooking is regularly offered. The smaller restaurant, La Serenata, brings Italian cuisine to Mauritius and provides a private atmosphere, making it the perfect setting for a romantic dinner. Bamboo screens offer guests privacy, but still provide the opportunity to view the evening’s entertainment. Walking along a palm tree-lined path, guests will reach the resort’s third restaurant, Le Navigator. It offers wide views from its location on a rocky outcrop, and the gourmet chef cooks fresh fish and seafood. Later in the evening, the restaurant is turned into a stylish club. La Planteur Bar is surrounded by palm trees and located next to the main pool. Guests can enjoy a drink here while watching local artists perform.
Sport & leisure: Exotic spa, water sports, and various outdoor activities
Canonnier’s wellness centre is built impressively in the middle of a majestic Banyan tree. The treatment rooms are only made out of natural materials like wood, stone and thatch, which ensures that they blend in harmoniously with the surrounding area. The paths are lined with lianas and small ponds. Guests can be pampered with massages and beauty treatments in these surroundings. For guests who want an active holiday, this 4-star resort has water sports like kayaking, water skiing, windsurfing and sailing. Trained instructors are available for beginners. Those who want a quieter holiday can discover the colourful underwater world with a glass-bottom boat tour. Additionally, the hotel offers land-based outdoor activities like tennis, dart, and pool. The fitness studio and hamam of the neighbouring Le Mauricia Hotel is also available for guests of Le Cannonier.
Location: Idyllically located on a historic peninsula with several beaches
The seafront, 4 star Canonnier Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa is located on a historic peninsula, which offers guests a view over Mauritius’ northern islands. As relics from the rich history of the peninsula, the lighthouse and ancient fortress create a special atmosphere. The village of Grand Baie is 5km away and it is the most important holiday centre on Mauritius. There are three different beaches very close to the hotel.
