Quinta de Monteverde - Solares de Portugal

Ancient monastery in leafy Northern Portugal: The historic hotel Quinta de Monteverde - Solares de Portugal

At a river mouth between hills and the sea in Northern Portugal, you’ll find the ancient monastery Quinta de Monteverde - Solares de Portugal. This property, built in the 16th century by a Portuguese family, today houses an historic hotel. In 1820, the Italian Luigi Monteverdi married the owner of the property and gave the Quinta de Monteverde its name. A romantic hotel for a Portugal vacation with historic charm!

Ancient monastery
The Quinta de Monteverde has been left completely in its original style. Over the main entrance you can see the family coat of arms carved into the granite, and everywhere at this historic hotel you’ll find the original 16th-18th-century furniture - dark Baroque chairs and beds, exposed stone walls and chandeliers. When you look up to see ancestors gazing back at you from ancient paintings you’ll begin to wonder which century you’re actually in!

The rooms at this historic hotel
Two of the eight rooms at the Quinta de Monteverde are housed in the towers of the main house, from where you have wonderful views over the hills of the leafy Norte region. The other romantic-historically decorated rooms are housed in the former staff quarters of the property. The best place to enjoy breakfast, sat in the Portuguese morning sun, is in the garden!

Unspoilt beach in Northern Portugal
Inside the Quinta de Monteverde, surrounded by castle walls, you can spend relaxed days in the old fruit gardens, fire up the BBQ, play tennis or splash around in the swimming pool. The best thing on a wam summer’s day is to hire a bike and cycle along the kilometer-long unspoilt sandy beach!
