If you’re looking for a beach holiday on the Baltic Sea and prefer small, family-run hotels to large tourist complexes, then the SAND is for you. This lovely beach hotel has around 77 rooms of different sizes and types. The modern interior design is excellent – full of color and drawing on the textures of the beach and nature. Further highlights include the generous breakfast and the very friendly service delivered by the whole team.
Beach Hotel: 7km of heavenly beach right in front of the door
If you want an uncomplicated beach holiday, there is no better place to stay. After breakfast, you can simply throw your towel over your shoulder, cross the road and slip between two dunes, where you’ll find yourself on a broad sandy beach on the Baltic Sea, popular with sea bathers for well over a century. The beach is 7km long in total and very clean. There are canopied beach chairs available for hire, a separate naturist area, numerous restaurants and cafes along the promenade as well as a water sports center with a surf and catamaran school, complete with an area of the beach set aside for sports and games.
Boutique Hotel: Creative design and an intimate atmosphere
There is a wide choice of places to stay on the Timmendorfer Strand. What sets this hotel apart is the beautiful blend between the private atmosphere of a small, family-run hotel and the energetic style of a sophisticated designer hotel. The whole building is decorated in harmonious beach colors, giving an air of positivity. The decoration and furnishings are on the latest trends yet still draw on the natural surroundings: some of the lamps and accessories are made of flotsam washed up on the beach, including driftwood and rounded pebbles.
Food and Drink: Breakfast on the terrace and a lounge bar
The day begins with a delicious breakfast for early risers and late risers daily from 7.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m., which you can also enjoy on the terrace if the weather is nice. For the small hunger in between, the SANDtaste offers a cosy bistro ambience and a small menu with sweet and hearty dishes. A lounge bar offers cool drinks and cocktails in the evening.
Sport and Leisure: Beach and nature on the Baltic coast
The main attraction near the SAND is obviously the beach. A bicycle tour is definitely worthwhile and helps you get to know the beach and the coastal area better. You can find maps and tips on cycle routes in the hotel itself. The hotel also rents sustainably produced bamboo bicycles from my Boo. If you need to while away a rainy day, the SeaLife aquarium, only a few hundred meters down the road, is a great day out.
