The bells, the bells

When we arrived there was no-one at reception. After we had been waiting for ten minutes or so, various guests rallied round & tried to help us by finding a member of staff but without success. I telephoned the number on my booking form: no reply. Meanwhile one of our party, who was standing near the door for some fresh air, had her arm crushed & bruised by the sliding door which closed without warning. Eventually a charming & helpful person arrived who completed the formalities & showed us to the apartment. This was very clean, well-appointed & comfortable. In every respect all we could wish. However because of the Cathedral & another church nearby, both with bells which rang every quarter of an hour throughout the night, the comfort of the rooms was wasted on us. We tried closing the (double-glazed) windows but to no avail. Several of our friends have recommended this hotel to us. I intend to ask them whether it was a joke, or not. Despite the very well-appointed rooms, I would not consider staying there again, nor would I recommend it to anyone else.

What a lovely place to stay

This is a really special place to stay, right in the heart of historic Girona. The bells of the cathedral are audible form the rooms, although not intrusive. We could see the cathedral tower from our windows. We chose to have an apartment within this hotel and were very satisfied with what we had. Being able to walk down to the restaurants and historic sights was a real bonus. It's right up in the barely navigable streets, so it was alarming taking the car up there, but the directions were accurate and we parked our car with a permit issued by the hotel in the adjacent square. Bring your walking shoes as you need them to cope with the steep climb on the cobbled streets, but it's worth it. Happy to give this hotel top marks.

Fit as a Butcher"s Dog

Stayed in one of the hotel's apartments-comfortable and spacious-very good value for money. Very close to cathedral which always seem to be at highest point of towns, ergo you will have calf muscles like sprung steel by end of stay and NB it's non smoking!!

Historic but contemporary style and comfort

I chose this hotel as a two night stay for a special birthday treat. It exceeded my expectations in terms of quality. Its historic but contemporary character and the care that has gone into the furbishment of the hotel made it very special. The internal decoration of the reception area and the public space is exceptional hand crafting in metal, marble and stone. We stayed in a junior suite - a little bit more expensive than the standard rooms, but it was worth it. The room was well equipped - even toothbrushes. You could forget everything and stay for the weekend. Breakfast was fresh, with a limited selection, but fine for the cost and as a continental one. No restaurant, but this hotel is located in the historic quarter with plenty of really good restaurants within only a few minutes walk - downhill on the way there and uphill on the way back. Loads of atmosphere; art gallery and cathedral next door for excellent visits; the medieval city walls to walk around a few steps away; an ancient and photogenic city to explore and cheap flights there. A hidden gem. We can't wait to go back.

The hotel was excellent and very good value for money.

We loved it. However it let itself down in small for example there was no hairdryer, kettle and the cooker didn't work. None of these things would stop us from going back.

Charming Hotel in a Great Location

Hotel Historic's location close to Girona Cathedral means that it is an ideal location for those wishing to exploer the narrow streets of the old city. The family run hotel has been tastefully renovated with each room being different. The quality of the decor and furnishing is of a very high standard throughout. We received a warm welcome from the owner who also gave suggestions for restaurants for both lunch and dinner.

Experience Girona totally!

We were charmed by Girona for 5 days recently, enjoying the many restaurants and endless sights and photographic opportunities. A huge part of our enjoyment was our stay at the Hotel Historic. We chose an apartment to give ourselves some space, and loved the style and ambience. I can highly recommend this well-run and beautifully appointed hotel to anyone wanting the true historic Girona experience!

GEM OF A HOTEL

We loved staying at the Historic Hotel in Girona, once we were able to find it... Was quite difficult and the driving instructions from the hotel were difficult to follow. But was well worth the anxiety once we found it... - Beautiful and comfortable accommodations, delicious breakfast, good advice on places to go.
