The Hotel Etxegana near Zeanauri in Basque Country, northern Spain, has been built according to centuries old architectural traditions. The surprising thing is that it’s brand new – launched in 2005. What a great idea, and how brilliantly carried out!
The Hotel Etxegana
Two young men had the idea to build a hotel according to the plans of a historic country house right in Gorbeia National Park near Bilbao, Basque Country. This idea led to a romantic hotel that combines historic charm with modern comforts like no other. The architecture of this unique country house hotel in Basque Country is based on natural materials and - according to tradition - built wholly without iron fittings. At the same time, the interior design featuring spacious rooms, modern bathrooms, and oversized windows allow for contemporary living. A highlight is the huge glass front on the southern façade. This is where you’ll find the restaurant of the romantic hotel.
Residing in the Hotel Etxegana
The room interiors hold a further pleasant surprise. In line with its historic structure, this country house hotel is furnished with antique furnishings from various epochs from top to bottom. Wood is the material used most. All 18 rooms (including two gorgeous suites) show the passion with which the owners Begoña and Luis have styled the Hotel Etxegana. Both welcome and take care of their guests personally. Further advantages that make a holiday in Basque Country comfy in this small hotel are the hydro massage tubs in the bathrooms, a tasty breakfast, all topped off by complete peace and quiet as well as wonderful scenic views.
