The Marrakech Riad Charai is located at the center of the historic oriental part of Marrakech. The name of the small bed & breakfast derives from the former owners of the Riad, the family Charai. Later, the mansion functioned as a residency for the private secretary of the famous Pascha Tahmi el-Glaoui. Correspondingly, the Riad Charai is a very impressive place: The estate is more than 1000 sqm in size and represents the traditional style of architecture of Morocco. 14 guests can stay here and will find a small oasis of tranquility amidst the hectic Old Town and near the busy Jmâa El Fna Square.
A traditional Moroccan riad
The Charai is characterized by simple elegance. Dark wood, oriental carpets and white walls dominate the appearance of the riad. There is a Moroccan lounge with fireplace, a traditional hammam, a magnificent garden and a palm-tree covered terraced. Yet the unrivalled highlight at the riad Charai is the beautiful, candle-lit inner courtyard. Here you will find a swimming pool, surrounded by sun loungers, small fountains with rose pedals, niches with cushions and pillows to sit and various palm trees, providing a delicate scent in the evenings. This is also where the breakfast is served at the riad, and in the evening you can enjoy a romantic dinner!
Activities in and around Marrakech
The “Pearl of the South”, as Marrakech is also named, offers many different activities. Of course, the discovery of the city of Marrakech itself is one of the first things you might want to do at the Riad Charai. Founded in the year 1062, Marrakech served repeatedly as the state capital of different empires. Accordingly, the buildings and structures are splendid. The impressive city wall, for example, was build in the 12th century and to this day surrounds the charming Medina of Marrakech. The same era witnessed the building of the largest mosque of Marrakech, the tower of which is deemed to be architectonically perfect and has been copied many times. But not only the city features thrills: Go on an excursion into the desert from the Riad Charai – using the quad or on the back of a camel!
