The monastery which today houses the Pousada de Tavira was founded in 1569 and expanded and adapted several times in the following centuries. Today, renaissance and baroque style elements dominate in the 4 star hotel in Southern Portugal, such as, for example, the impressive facade and the central stair case. During the renovation work at the romantic hotel Pousada de Tavira – Convento da Graça, even remains from the Moorish era were discovered, at which point the plans were changed and the ruins were integrated. Today they can be seen in the bar of the 4 star hotel. One thing has however not changed at all over the ages – the glorious location. The building of the Pousada de Tavira – Convento da Graça still today stands in a glorious location in the former Jewish Quarter of the town and from a hill overlooks the blue sea of the Algarve.
