The castle hotel is the result of a careful restoration of the magnificent palace which King Diniz had erected for his wife, Queen Santa Isabel. At that time, the foundations for the building of the castle were the fortifications which had previously been erected under the three kings Dom Afonso IV., Dom Pedro and Dom Fernando. This also explains why the impressive tower of the castle is named the “tower of the three kings”. In the following centuries the romantic castle again and again played a significant role in the history of Portugal, which makes the Pousada de Estremoz – Reinha Santa Isabel an absolutely unique historic hotel. The brilliance of its rich history can be seen and felt everywhere!
