The Porto Bay Serra Golf Hotel is housed in a picturesque villa with a colonial touch, that was built in the year 1920. To this main house was added a more modern extension, in which some of the rooms are located. The hotel offers 21 guest rooms in total with historically-inspired fittings, which perfectly match the romantic architecture of the building. Among other things, it features a glass-enclosed pool, a recommendable restaurant and an enchanting garden with a huge variety of plant species, which, like in a botanical garden, are labelled with an information board. Not least for golfers: the hotel is a splendid base, because the local golf club Santo da Serra (27 holes) is only 500m away.
Nature Hotel: Hiking in the Laurel Forest
Madeira is a dream island for hikers and nature lovers. The Porto Bay Serra Golf is an excellent starting point for hiking and cycling, as well as mountain biking. There are bicycles at the hotel. Especially popular are the so-called ‘Levada Walks’ along the old irrigation channels, which lead across the island. Absolutely unparalleled is the scenic beauty of the world’s unique laurel forests of Madeira, which in 1999 were recognised as a national World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Golf hotel: 500m from the golf course
The golf club of Santo da Serra is accessible from Porto Bay Serra Golf Hotel in just a few minutes on foot. Moreover, one can be picked up by a golf buggy on the edge of the course by appointment. The course itself has been re-designed in the nineties by Robert Trent Jones and offers 27 holes. It is very well maintained and offers partial sea views.

The day begins with an excellent buffet breakfast. In the evenings the hotel restaurant serves very delicious typical island meals from a small but select menu. In addition, a full afternoon tea with homemade pastries is offered daily.

A small on-site spa invites you to swim under a glass dome. Here one can also find a sauna and a well-equipped fitness room. The reception staff will gladly help arrange in the planning of hiking, horseback riding, mountaineering or cycling. The same applies to the reservation of tee times on the nearby golf course.

The Porto Bay Serra Golf Hotel is in Vila do Santo da Serra in the west of the island, about 25 km from the capital Funchal. The area around the hotel is only sparsely populated and mainly characterized by hills, forests and agriculture.
