The Loisium Wine & Spa Resort in Langenlois is an elegant-looking, avant-garde glass building, both the interior and the exterior dominated by a wine theme. Design & Architecture: Glass palace surrounded by vineyards
New York architect Steven Holl is the talent behind the contemporary design at the Loisium Wine & Spa Resort Langenlois which looks like it’s been lifted straight out of the American metropolis and dropped into the heart of the idyllic Austrian countryside. The delicate-looking, cube-shaped glass building seems to float amongst the vineyards of the Kamp valley which can be seen from wherever you are inside. The earthy colors and patterns of the minimalist interiors are all influenced by the theme of wine that dominates the rest of the hotel. Together with the Loisium Cellar, a wine education center housed in a labyrinthine 900-year-old cellar, the building has received many awards.
Wellness: The power of the wine
The spa facilities all carry the name of beauty and natural cosmetics specialists AVEDA and offer a wide selection of AVEDA treatments as well as specially created spa treatments on the theme of wine. The AVEDA Wine Spa is spread over three floors and covers 1000sqm. As well as the sauna area with 3 different saunas and a steam room, plus the year-round heated outdoor pool, guests can also look forward to using the relaxation lounges, fitness room, floating beds and 12 treatment rooms. Natural sunlight, glass architecture, the water of the pool and views over the vineyards create a really relaxed atmosphere.
Nature: Rolling hills, mild climate, vineyards
Langenlois, situated at the lower end of the Kamp valley where the wine regions of Wachau, the Krems Valley and Wagram meet to form one of the best wine regions in Lower Austria, is known for its clay and loess soil, gently rolling hills and a climate ideal for growing wine. The wine culture here is at the very heart of the community.
Eating & drinking: Regional focus and high-quality selection of wines
Head chef Emanuel Peceny uses predominantly regional produce and specialties from local suppliers like Buffalo and goat’s cheese to serve up elegant dishes in the award-winning restaurant "Vineyard in Langenlois". The wine on offer is primarily focused on the highlights of the Kamp valley and the Wachau region, so expect to try out some Grüner Veltliner and Riesling while you’re here. Plenty of other good Austrian wines are represented, plus top-class international vintages to offer variety. A really luxurious bar is the perfect place to relax with whatever you choose.
Sport & Leisure: Wine, golf, hiking or cycling
A visit to the Wine Experience with its own cube-shaped building and an old vaulted cellar is a must for wine lovers. In the region surrounding the hotel you’ll also find several golf courses of international standard, for example the Golfclub Lengenfeld Kamptal-Donauland with its terraced 36-hole course surrounded by vineyards. The Kamp valley offers beautiful walks and cycle paths, and with the hotel hiring out bikes itself, it’s an easy day out.
