The legacy of the historical structure is still clearly evident at the Alpenhotel Wittelsbach. The 32 rooms are decorated in understated designs, and antiques from Italy complement the modern accents to create a charming atmosphere. Thanks to the comfortable sitting areas and large beds, the rooms offer guests maximal comfort. The majority of the rooms feature designer bathrooms with rain showers. The Alpenhotel Wittelsbach carries the distinctions of being a Small Elegant Hotel and a Sightsleeping Hotel, meaning the hotel boasts a high level of comfort as well as fascinating architecture which caters to guests who have an eye for historical settings.
Historic Hotel: Renovated building from the 19th century
The Alpenhotel Wittelsbach is a very traditional hotel. It was built in 1888 and is now managed by the fifth generation. Built by Italian labourers in the 19th century, their careful craft is still clearly visible in its walls. In the years 2010 and 2011, the house underwent general renovation which preserved the historical building substance while carefully modernizing the hotel’s facilities.

At the foot of the 1,645 metre high Rauschenberg mountain, the hotel’s guests can enjoy stunning views of the mountains, the valley and the countryside. The alpine hotel is located on a quiet side street in the center of Ruhpolding. Guests can take in the beauty of the hotel’s natural surroundings from the hotel’s terrace. Here sun loungers are provided from which you can enjoy the views of pristine nature with a cool drink. Guests can also sunbathe on the lawn in the spacious garden of the Alpenhotel Wittelsbach. Located in the courtyard of the hotel, visitors are protected here from prying eyes.
Food & Drink: Organic cuisine using local ingredients and international specialty teas
The hotel restaurant Gillitzer’s Restaurant, Lounge & Garden offers guests the best in fine dining. At Alpenhotel Wittelsbach, a good day starts with a good breakfast, and the breakfast buffet includes a wide range of regional and international breakfast specialties. Guests can choose from a selection of 70 hand-picked teas from around the world, which the hotel manager Marcus Eismann informs guests about at regularly scheduled tea tastings. For half-board guests, lunch is served as a buffet or á la carte menu, while a carefully selected menu is available for guests with full board. Here, the chef uses healthy organic ingredients and regional products. There is a focus on vegetarian specialties, which are prepared both gluten- and lactose-free. During the day, guests can enjoy light snacks and homemade cakes in the restaurant. Gillitzer’s Bar is the perfect place to relax, where live piano music often provides a soothing atmosphere in which to enjoy international drinks
Sports & Leisure: Climbing, Skiing and Minigolf
The destination Ruhpolding is ideal for sports activities both in summer and in winter. While winter sports fans get their money’s worth with the ski and snowboard runs, as well as skating, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing opportunities. There are also numerous opportunities to explore mountains and lakes in the area in summer. In the vicinity of the hotel, guests can rent bicycles and mountain bikes to explore the mountains. Climbers, Nordic walkers and hikers will also find many suitable opportunities to practice their sport; after all, the Alpenhotel Wittelsbach is a member of the hiking hotels. The Alpenhotel Wittelsbach is located in the centre of the Upper Bavarian town of Ruhpolding, just a few kilometres from the Austrian border. Despite its central location, the area around the hotel is very quiet - especially in summer you can enjoy the idyll of the mountainous landscape. In winter, the small town is transformed into the cross-country ski Mecca of Bavaria and attracts skiers from all over the world. In the surrounding area there are many sport and cultural opportunities; Ruhpolding offers a fitness center, an indoor swimming pool, an outdoor pool, a golf course and a park for inline skating. There is also a natural lake near the hotel. In the centre of the village there are bars, pubs and shops, and museums, parks, gardens, and other sights are also within walking distance.
