This hotel run by the local Pečečnik family has an idyllic location on the quieter east coast of Istria, in north-western Croatia. The Villa Štefanija stands out from all the other hotels in the immediate and surrounding area - quite literally. It is a small, bright white house with lots of balconies and a large terrace looking out from a height of 189m over the mouth of the River Rasa and as far as the sea. There’s a total of 6 guest rooms, each of which with a unique, comfortable design. The highlight is the infinity pool in the garden with its wonderful panoramic views that, on a clear day, stretch as far as the islands of Cres and Lošinj.

The wooded, mountainous landscape of Istria that surrounds the Villa Štefanija offers guests the chance to do some walking, hiking and cycling. Away from the hustle and bustle of the main holiday resorts, it is wonderfully quiet here. In this rural area, various folk events take place throughout the year (wine festival, fig festival, jousting, accordion concerts). Adrenaline-junkies will find lots of cycling, hiking and riding trails in the nearby area. After an active day out, put your feet up in the hotel garden in the 15x5m swimming pool or use the spa with its sauna, Jacuzzi for 4 people and atmospheric relaxation room.
Food & drink: Slow food in a traditional setting
Seasonal and regional are key in the kitchen at the Villa Štefanija. Traditional Mediterranean dishes are created using ingredients from the nearby sea, forests and fields. In the nearby town of Pula (27km) the hotel also runs a small wine bar where you can sample Istrian wines as well as olive oil.

The hotel Villa Štefanija overlooks the Bay of Raška, a fjord-like branch of the Adriatic Sea, on a hill, just 5 kilometers from the sea. The small town of Puntera, which belongs to the so-called Barbaner area, is situated in the southeast of the Istrian peninsula, halfway between the ferry port of Rabac and the nearest larger town of Pula. The tourist hotspots of Pula, Rovinj and Poreč can all be easily reached within a half an hour’s drive.
