The history of the city hotel Chateau des Comtes de Challes
The former stronghold was built by the family de Challes, a typical feudal family from the upper nobility. It owned several fiefs, held jurisdiction on all levels, received dues from about 30 communities and produced several knights. From 1669, the family even held the title Marquis. The family had by then reached several high-level positions in France. But in 1777, the last Marquis de Challes died. In the confusions of the French Revolution, the property shifted to the French government, which, in turn, sold the Chateau des Comtes de Challes to the former steward of the family de Challes. In 2002, the family Trèves bought the castle and started elaborate renovation and improvement work to create the magnificent castle hotel that awaits you today.
