Living and eating in harmony with nature are essential to the philosophy at the Eremito | Hotelito del Alma. Its restoration was carried out according to strict ecological rules. In the rooms, only natural and eco-friendly materials have been used. The hotel also runs a small organic farm with vegetable garden, orchard and vineyard. This is where the hotel kitchen gets most of its ingredients from.
Since the 14th century, this secluded monastery, which is today home to the Eremito | Hotelito del Alma, has been a spiritual retreat. Over a period of four years the small monastery was extensively renovated. Today, it still serves the same purpose as it has done for centuries, but now it also offers all the comforts of a modern luxury hotel. Around the monastery is a sea of wooded hills that extends as far as the eye can see. Behind its thick stone walls you’ll find 14 guest rooms with an understated design that will win you over straight away. Exclusively traditional materials like wood, rough-hewn stone and hand-forged iron create an uncluttered look. Despite the historic atmosphere, the room amenities are of the highest quality. Your unforgettable holiday here is rounded off with delicious vegetarian cuisine made from home-grown produce. Another surprising highlight is the spa area with heated pool and steam room with a breathtaking atmosphere.
Food & drink: Monk recipes & a fireplace
In the winter, you can dine in a monastic dining hall in front of a crackling log fire. Guests sit at long wooden tables and are served using authentic earthenware. In summer, all meals are enjoyed outside. Tuck into delicious vegetarian Italian cuisine made using home-grown and local produce. The daily changing menu of the day is often inspired by ancient monk recipes.
5 star hotel: Comfort in a monastery cell
At the Eremito | Hotelito del Alma, the meaning of ‘luxury’ is very different. You’ll find no phone, TV or mini-bar here. This is all intentional, so that guests have the opportunity to really switch off. When you’re sat at the stone window seat overlooking the wooded hills of Umbria, you won’t miss the TV at all, and you’ll love the fact that the phone isn’t ringing for once. What’s also unique is the fact that, because of old monastic tradition, there are only single rooms available. But they have little in common with a meager monk’s cell. At first glance you might see a rustic room with fabulous barrel vaults, but when you take a closer look everything is geared towards a comfortable stay. This includes under-floor heating in all rooms, as well as a comfortable bed with hand-embroidered linen. The fantastic stone bathrooms with their bronze and iron fittings are also very impressive.
Leisure & sport: Steam room under the monastery arches
Even the unique vaulted spa at the Eremito | Hotelito del Alma has a spiritual atmosphere. Take a dip in the heated mini pool or relax in the steam room, accompanied by the sounds of Gregorian chanting.
