Hotel Description

Hotel Description

The boutique hotel Dar Les Cigognes is located in the historical old town of Marrakech, the Medina, in a quiet street but walking distance from shops, bars and restaurants. With many of the important sites like Palais El Badi, Palais La Bahia, Palais Royal and the Saadien Tombs only a few steps away, you will find the luxury hotel Dar Les Cigognes an excellent base for exploring the city of Marrakech.

Traditional Riad with wonderful views
The luxury hotel Dar Les Cigognes is a boutique hotel, created from two riads, traditional Arab courtyard houses connected by a bridge over a small alleyway with fruit trees and a fountain. From the fabulous roof terraces of this romantic hotel in Marrakech you can clearly see the snow capped Atlas Mountains. Also visible from this honeymoon hotel is
the minaret of the Koutoubia mosque and the parapets of three Royal Palaces. For centuries, a discreet door opposite the gates of Marrakech’s Royal Palace led to a wealthy merchant’s home. Today, behind that door, you will find the luxury hotel Dar Les Cigognes.

Boutique hotel rooms
There are just 11 rooms at the luxury hotel Dar Les Cigognes, making it a true boutique hotel and ensuring a more private and individual experience in Marrakech. There are three superior rooms, seven deluxe rooms and one suite. All the romantic rooms have air conditioning, a telephone and a safe. Many rooms have additionally a fireplace. Each room of the romantic hotel Dar Les Cigognes is unique, drawing on the rich cultural heritage of Moorish art and décor. The rooms capture the aim behind the hotel in Marrakech perfectly – to keep the tradition and beauty of ancient Morocco whilst providing a top quality luxury hotel for the modern traveler.

Moroccan cuisine
Lunch at the luxury hotel Dar Les Cigognes can be taken in one of the many bhous -one of the various cosy seating areas positioned around the courtyard, at a special table set up in one of the courtyards or on one of the beautiful terraces. A number of diverse Mediterranean and Moroccan dishes are served at this boutique hotel, using local, natural, fresh ingredients. The romantic hotel Dar Les Cigognes in Marrakech bakes all their own bread and makes their own pastries. A traditional Moroccan breakfast, with a range of freshly made Moroccan breads, pancakes, and pastries, served with honey, a variety of jams, unforgettably delicious fresh-squeezed orange juice and a choice of tea or coffee is the perfect way to start the day at the honeymoon hotel Dar Les Cigognes. The hotel even won "world’s best Moroccan cooking class" in 2011.

Relaxing and traditional Hammam
To de-stress and detox, there is no better way than to visit the traditional Moroccan steam bath, the hammam, at the Dar Les Cigognes and have a deeply relaxing massage or rub-down. The hammam at the luxury hotel in Marrakech includes a typical massage “beldi” with Moroccan black soap in a steam room. This cleansing and relaxation technique is still used frequently by Moroccans, even today. After the Beldi rub-down at this romantic hotel, what would be better than to have a nice long soak in the Jacuzzi? Feel the water jet around you, and relax and contemplate the beauty of the room, with its arches and domed ceiling, marble floors, and the gentle scent of rose petals…

Zouak Room: Zouak is a decorative painting technique using very fine brushes which was perfected in Marrakech and can be found in all the grand residences and palaces of the kingdom. The ceiling, wardrobe doors, bed frame and bedside table of this room are all adorned in this painstaking finish. Bedroom walls and the bathroom use a warm golden-hued tadelakt.

Tataoui Room: Tataoui has a rustic appeal, with ceiling, furniture, mirror frame and wardrobe doors made of brightly colored, woven oleander branches. The bedroom’s walls are a cream-coloured tadelakt, while the bathroom uses a cool green shade. There is also a small dressing area.

Sahara Room: This room is dominated by painted desert landscape on blue tadelakt walls. A ceiling of midnight blue and star mofit, floor of sand coloured das, and tent-like drapes over the bed complete the mirage. (superior room)

The bed is a generous 180 x 200cm.

Double Deluxe room (Silver, Casablanca, Harem, Safari, Berber, Safi, Middle Atlas)

Quiet, Inner courtyard, Double bed (min. width 180 cm), Heating, Air conditioning, Safe, Room telephone, Bath/toilet
Deluxe room (Silver, Casablanca, Harem, Safari, Berber, Safi, Middle Atlas)
Sample picture

Silver Room:
The "Silver Room" has a carved plaster ceiling and long band of carved plaster around the silver-coloured tadelakt walls. The floor is a mosaic of uncoated and coated tiles, called bejmat and zellige, alternating between natural and white. An exterior window looks out onto the palace ramparts; an interior window looks to the courtyard. The bed is a baldaquin bed, draped with light curtains, and is a generous 180 x 200cm.

Casablanca Room:
The style of this room is Art Deco, to reflect the heyday of this well-known City. The walls are made of off-white tadelakt; the ceiling has an art-deco motif around a matching lamp. The bed (200 x 180cm) and the night-tables are of walnut wood, the latter with silver-coloured lamps. Two period armchairs and a table front the fireplace, which is decorated in an art-deco pattern all in black and white zelliges (mosaic). Sepia-coloured prints of Casablanca and a large mirror made of camel bone and black wood decorate this superb room.

Harem Room:
The harem theme translates into rich red velvets, used extensively in the room’s furnishings. The gold four-poster bed measures a generous 200 x 180cm and is draped in gold. It has side tables and gold night lamps. Two armchairs and a small brass table are set in front of the fireplace, the latter decorated with Suleiman’s arabesque signature. Two poufs and an ornate Orientalist painting as well as stunning lamps further adorn this exquisite room. The walls are red, the ceiling is of carved plaster and the floor is made of bejmat with a red zellige border and leads through to a dressing area and then into the bathroom.

Safari Room:
The Safari suite has a tataoui ceiling, a traditional craft of Southern Berber tribes, made of woven oleander branches. The walls are of a light khaki tadelakt, to further characterize the décor of the room. The room has two twin-sized beds with decorative mosquito netting and small night-tables, which can be twinned to a king-sized if necessary. A Mauritanian leather and straw carpet, a trunk, African tapestries, and books on old African hunting further decorate this exquisite room.

Berber:
This room’s spectacular ceiling is painted in bright panels of highly decorative Berber motifs. The walls are made of sun-coloured tadelakt. The room has a king-sized bed with a carved-wood frame. Two armchairs and a small table are set in front of the fireplace and a large Berber mirror and Berber accessories adorn the walls of this extraordinary room.

Safi Room:
This room’s ceiling has a painted zouak (hand-painted motifs) beams, with a matching bed of 180x 200cm and bedside tables with lamps. The bedroom floor is made of bejmat and has a blue zellige border. Two finely-worked wooden armchairs and a small table will allow guests to sit by the fireplace, adorned with Safi pottery. Further pottery items in various forms and colors from this seaside town further decorate this room. The walls are of green tadelakt.

Middle Atlas:
Some of Morocco’s most unusual and attractive carpets come from this area and several embellish this room. The walls are made of cream tadelakt, a perfect background for the rich purples and oranges of the rooms’s carpets. The ceiling has violet and walnut-colored beams with a painted frieze of orange Koranic writing. The fireplace is ornately decorated. The four-poster bed is a generous 200 x 180cm with bedside tables and lamps.
